How do I import a song from Karaoke-verison to GarageBand?

I'm stumped trying to buy an audio track MP3 from Karaoke-version.com and get it to my iPad GarageBand. On Karaoke-version, the download button opens the file in a play mode in Safari and I don't see a way to get it into Music. Karaoke-version also has a option to send be email. Tried that, the MP3 shows up as an attachment, but how do I save the attachment to My Music? I was able to save the attachment to iCloud Drive, but can't figure out a way to import from iCloud to GarageBand. I was able to import the file from email to the iPad app AnyTunes. It seems like the GarageBand inter app audio might be able to import from Anytune, but it gets too complicated. In GarageBand, I can push the + to create a new project, the MP3 shows up in my CloudDrive, but import doesn't do anything. Why can't I use the option here to Import from iTunes File Sharing?

Good evening ph2738,

Thanks for your question. I work a lot with karaoke files, so I think I can help you with the issue you are having getting the MP3 files you downloaded into GarageBand for iOS. I've looked at the Karaoke-version website, and from what I can see, you would need to download the tracks to your computer first. Then add the MP3 files to your iTunes Library, create a playlist, and sync the playlist to your iPad.

My personal workflow is to download the file, rename it to "KAR - song title" and import it to my iTunes Library. It's easy to search for the "KAR" songs and combine them into a playlist that way.

Then, when I've worked on the song, possibly changed the key, etc. and I'm ready to perform it, I change the "KAR" to "BT" (for backing tracks). You guessed it - I have a separate playlist of backing tracks, ready to perform.

I'll include some resources below for adding files to your iTunes Library and syncing with your iPad. Now the tracks will be available for you to use in GarageBand for iOS, (if the licensing information for the website permits it.).

iTunes for Mac: Import music and video already on your computer

iTunes for Mac: Create a playlist

Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes on your computer using USB

GarageBand for iPad - import audio files

Another source for karaoke is right in the iTunes Store. If you type the word "Karaoke" followed by the title of the song in quotation marks, you will find many popular songs to purchase and download directly to your iPad.

Both those options are for importing GarageBand projects, not audio files. See this recent post on how to use iTunes File Sharing with .band project files/folders: Re: Trouble with Exporting garage band projects.

I just imported a mp3 from jazzbacks.com into Garageband, but had a few difficulties. I couldn't get the file imported from iCloud, but it did work from my synced iTunes library. I can never figure out how to create a new GarageBand project, then get to the Tracks view. I always have to record a track using one of the GB instruments with number of measures set to automatic, then I can open Tracks view, import a audio file using Loops, then delete the first track.

But now I have a track that is many many pages wide. I have grabbed the track handles and slid them together, but is this problem created by my initial tempo settings or the throw away first track?

Now, is there any chance I can import audio from a FaceBook post, particularly . I told Stephanie I wanted to lay down an alto sax track over her version, but she is technically challenged and wasn't able to send me a mp3. Maybe I'll just have to send the audio to external speakers and record it with the iPad mic.
