can i get apple care for a pre owned iphone

I want to switch from my iPhone 6s to an iPhone 6 Plus. Will I be able to get AppleCare on that new device even though it's pre-owned?

If you bought it from Apple or an authorized Apple reseller then yes you should be able to as long as it's within the 30 days as mentioned. But if you bought it from a friend or something like eBay then no.

If it is still within the first 30 days warranty, then one could buy the extended warranty. Otherwise, no. See Can I buy an AppleCare plan for my device? - Apple Support.
