how to connect nakamichi dragon to Mac's wifi

I just bought a Nakamichi Dragon wifi/bluetooth speaker system and am trying to connect it to my Mac without success.

I'm running a mid-2011 21.5 inch 16 gigs and osx 10.11.6. I tried the itunes connector but speaker doesn't show up. Any ideas?

It says:

"Or, stream music from iTunes to your AirPort Express or AirPlay-enabled speakers."

The link I posted:

If you don't see the AirPlay icon in iTunes

When an AirPlay-enabled device is available, you'll see User uploaded file to the right of the volume slider in iTunes. If you don't see the icon, follow these steps:

  1. Check that you have the latest version of iTunes and Apple TV software.
  2. Connect your computer and your other device to the same Wi-Fi network. If you're using Ethernet, connect both devices to the same router or hub. If you're using both Wi-Fi and Ethernet, connect your AirPlay device to the same router that your computer uses for Wi-Fi.
  3. Restart your computer, AirPlay device, and network router.
  4. Some AirPlay devices include an on/off option for AirPlay. Look for the option in Settings and make sure the feature is on. For more information, check the device's user guide.
  5. Make sure that your Mac or PC can communicate using port 3689, which is used by AirPlay to communicate with other devices on your network.

All the above information is in the link I posted earlier.

Presumably you also have the manual for the speakers and can see what it says there. I spent 5 minutes researching this on the web for you and those speakers are pretty obscure with almost no online mention (by the way, they are not "Nakamichi Dragon" which has not been produced since 1993, they are "Nakamichi Dragon Lily"). From what I can tell they are Airplay enabled which means it should be pretty automatic unless another service is tying up or blocking the ports it needs to use.

Set up a test library in a different user account that as nothing but standard Apple settings and see if you can get it to connect from there.

I know nothing about these speakers other than what I read online which wasn't much. I can't help you with configuring the speakers themselves since I can find no real information about them.

Hi,

I don't have Airplay as I don't use Apple TV and the Nakamichi doesn't show up in itunes, so how do I get Airplay (without buying AppleTV)? I can't even get it to connect via Bluetooth! the Mac sees the speaker but the connection is unsuccessful. I see that Bluetooth needs a specific port number, and again there's no info on that either!

Hi,

Thanks for this, I've already gone through most of it. Network utility shows no DAAP address, so the port is blocked or what?

As far as I know I don't have any security software installed, just the standard Apple Apache front end. I'm not using proxies. The problem with the Apple 'help' is it doesn't tell you what to do if that port number doesn't show up except to get in touch with my security software author, which has to be... Apple.

Hi Again,

Yeah thanks anyway. The speaker is quite good and simple to set up, it's the **** Mac end that's the problem. When I try to use the Bluetooth connection the Mac actually sees the speaker (Dragon Lily) but when I try to pair, no go. I'll try setting up a new Standard account (not Administrator?) and see what happens.
