Sharing USB Printer PLEASE HELP ASAP!

I have an existing wireless network with a D-Link DI-514 router and I installed the airport express software on one of my computers connected to my network. Then I connected my airport express to my printer and plugged it in and it shows the amber colored light flashing. I did the airport setup assistant and I followed the instructions to get my airport express to join my network and when it says connecting it says it cannot connect to my network or it doesn't have a base station. Must it be connected to my router to work??????? In the instructions it doesn't say it has to.

It dose if you are going to set the airport up using wireless client. The flashing amber light means it not connected to your network. I suggest you plug the airport next to the router to see if it links. If it dose you range it to far.

Reset the Airport Express and try again.

One of the problems with WEP is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.

In order to make things easier for people, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling people to use simple memorable WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys.

The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a Netgear client and vice versa.

One thing is a 13 character 128 bit WEP password will be hashed by all vendors in the same way (if you use 40bit WEP then a 5 character password is required).

Though sometimes not even that works and the HEX key must be used regardless.

Ok I tried everything you suggested and even connected my airport express to my router and one ethernet cable from the airport to the router and my USB printer plugged into it and the amber light still shows up and when I do the airport setup assistant on one of my computers recieving internet from my router it says cannot connect to wireless network even when my wireless network shows up on the list and says cannot connect or the network does have a base station but doesn't when my airport express is connected to my router it my network has a base station. I'm close to returning it.

it's a D-Link DI-514. In the user guide it doesn't says anything about it having it to be plugged into the router just to share a printer. But I was told here it does have to be and when I connected it to my router now it works. But my purpose of purchasing this was to have it in a location away from my router because I thought it could join my wirless network without being connected to my router and join wirlessly. Also it refuses to join my network and it will only create it's own network and yes it is broadcasting it's SSID because it shows up in the airport setup assistant.

It can be useful to do this in order to correctly configure the Airport Express and to check it is in fact working.

and when I connected it to my
router now it works.

This implies that your problem is more than likely down to a wireless security issue.

You can confirm it is a WEP issue by temporarily turning off WEP and seeing if you can now configure the Airport Express to join your network wirelessly.

Also it refuses to join my network and it
will only create it's own network and yes it is
broadcasting it's SSID because it shows up in the

Is your D-Link broadcasting its SSID?

yes it is broadcasting it's SSID and I will try to disable my WEP. It's just weird because when I don't have it connected to my router by ethernet then when I do the airport admin utility it doesn't detect my airport express and doesn't show any base stations and when I try to join my network on aiport setup assistant it detects and shows my airport's SSID so I select it and then after a while of it says connecting then it says cannot connect or the newtrok doesn't have any base stations. I don't know where to go from there.
