Error code while copying file?

I have an imovie file (13.43 GB) that I am trying to get off of my Tiger G5, 10.4.8. I am trying to drag and drop onto my firewire MAXTOR backup harddrive that has 155.86 GB of memory available. Halfway through the file transfer (estimated to take 9 minutes), an error code pops up "Sorry, the operation could not be completed. Unexpected error occured. Error code -1309." I've tried to find a list of OSX error codes to no avail. I tried shortening the file name (to just three characters plus the ".iMovieProject". I've tried to do it with no programs open. I have no idea why it won't transfer. I don't want to trash it, I want to archive it on MAXTOR. Please help. Thank you.

I also tried zipping the file in the "create archive file" under "File" and it wasn't compressed enough, apparently. So what if the file is 13+ GB? Does a hardrive choke if it has to swallow that much data through a firewire data transfer?

Select the disk in the Finder and choose Get Info from the File menu; if the disk's format is listed as MS-DOS or FAT32, you cannot copy or store a file which is 4GB or larger on it regardless of how much space is available on the drive. You need to either segment the file, or use the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to reformat the drive in the Mac OS Extended format.

If you need to access the drive from a PC, you can either install MacDrive on the PC, or follow the instructions on this page.
