My PC has died and I would like to transfer my account to my laptop. I have a recent(ish) backup of my iTunes account. How do I do it?
I'm worried about connecting my Ipod (Classic) to the laptop and losing everything!
Most of the music has been uploaded from CD's rather than through the iTunes store.
I've copied over my iTunes folder to the laptop, but my library is still showing as empty.
Please help...

Provided the library was in the usual layout on the original machine it shouldn't matter if you've chosen a different user name for your account on the new computer. It should be as simple as copying the iTunes folder into your current user's Music folder and then launching iTunes. As given in the user tip:
If you think that you've moved your library correctly but cannot see your expected content when you open the library see Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash. If you have difficulty updating content see Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows.
And later:
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you have replaced your computer and are no longer able to access your original library or a backup of it then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

Thanks. Do you know if I have to login to iTunes with the same account as on the PC?
I've copied my iTunes folder over to the Music folder on the laptop, but my library is still blank when opening itunes.
Can you restore the iTunes library directly from the ipod?

Thank you so much. I needed to hold the Shift key down and tell it where to look. I'm so relieved! My library is now showing all my albums / playlists etc.
When connecting my ipod it says it's synching, but is not adding the new 'Test' playlist added. Do I also need to tell the ipod where to look?

It now says it's synching around 4500 songs. I'm hoping (praying!) these are additional songs since the last synch as I had around 19000 on the iPod earlier. Does it wipe the iPod before synching or just add to it?
If you didn't get an erase and sync warning then it should have recognized the library as the "home" library of the device, and should only need to transfer new or updated content that is in your selection, and remove anything that is no longer in it. Did you see the usage bar go up or down after changing your selections? As long as you have the media you can put it back if you made an error selecting what to sync.

Thanks. I didn't notice the usage bar, but I didn't get an erase and synch warning. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
It's good to know that I can get it all back anyway, the cold sweats can go now!

I think I've found the reason that only 4500 songs have been synched - I had a lot of music on an external drive. I think I'll need to manually re-connect the songs to the drive which will take some time to do, but at least nothing is lost.
Select the device via this device icon:
Then check your sync selections on the device's Music tab.
