I was trying to conserve battery, and the laptop won't let me close the app finder... someone help me before my battery runs out!!

yeah... I know... but why can't I close it... what if I don't want to find anything?
Charge your battery.
The Finder always runs. It's the way the OS is designed.

IF you don't wish to "find anything" turn off the computer.
Yes if , finder sometimes is not closing by itself then we can force quit it , but finder is a basic feature , when we open web browser ( can be safari , chrome ..) , finder will be seen in the dock .
The OP must shut down the machine , finder will be closed and battery will also be conserved , some rest must be given to the computer and yourself as continuously sitting in front of the the computer is sometimes tiresome .
The window should minimize to the doc.
You can open terminal and type killall Finder. But as soon as it stops, it relaunches. While you are there, type top and see what is using the most power CPU / Memory. Press Q to stop top.
Didn't say 'find anything', said 'get anywhere', and if you don't want to get anywhere on the computer then why are you worried about battery life? Turn it off.
Click on apple logo > Force quit > select finder and force quit .
Have you tried that? The Finder will automatically relaunch.
The OP wanted to permanently quit the Finder, I think.
Of course it is not a virus. As Terrence states, it is designed to run at all times. Whatever issue you may have with the battery, it is not being caused by the finder.
Because it's the most basic navigation tool. You can't get anywhere else without it.
Correct , it is relaunch 😉
