extra characters in file names

Extra characters appear in the name of every file I receive by email. All the spaces between the words are replaced by "20%" and I have to rename every file all the time. Is it a compatibility problem between Word for Mac and PC? I have the latest Word updates. Anything I can do about it?

Hmm, it should really be Dossier%20final%20CRSNG.pdf. I wonder if you're seeing a bug at Outlook, com or with your browser. Have you tried other browsers to compare results?

Essentially you're downloading the file from a web browser. Since URLs cannot contain spaces the spaces in the filename on the server will usually have been converted into %20s. Typically your browser will save the file in a downloads folder with the same name as it sees on the server. You can however change the name before you download. Some browsers or mail clients might do the substitution for you, but I'm not certain which. I know I make a habit of using space free filenames for anything I put online.
