MacPro & Asus PA329Q: Fonts Aliasing

Hi All –

I bought an ASUS PA329Q for my Mac Pro 2013 (latest model) connected via Thunderbolt.

I expected a similar resolution to an iPhone retina display, however I can see that the fonts are aliased.

How could this possibly be fixed?

Many thanks

Mac Pro, iOS 10.2.1

"Scaled" for most displays is still likely to be less than the maximum resolution for the display. If you really want smooth edges and 1:1 representation, choose "Best for display" if this has similar problems, you can try holding down the option button while clicking on Scaled in the pane. If no joy, you may need an additional Utility such as SwitchResX.

  • 32-inch 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution display with
  • DisplayPort 1.2,
  • mini-Displayport 1.2 and
  • 4x HDMI 2.0 inputs

In some cases the display must be deliberately set (using the displays's built in setup) to advanced features such as DisplayPort 1.2 or later versions. HDMI is unlikely to be able to deliver higher resolutions -- I am presuming you are Not using an adapter to HDMI.

Thanks for your very informative response.

I chose 'Best for Display', which didn't make any difference.

I also double-checked that the DisplayPort 1.2 was activated, which was actually the case.

SwitchResX appears to be a very useful 'plugin' however the 'rough' edges around the fonts still remain.

Still, I'm not sure what needs to be done. I use Apple's Thunderbolt cable, which is 'recommended'. Any other thoughts?

There is a problem with the MacBook Pro sending the wrong color signal to the monitor. You can confirm in About This Mac -> System Report… -> Graphics/Displays that the monitor is recognized as a TV.

More information is here http://www.mathewinkson.com/2013/03/force-rgb-mode-in-mac-os-x-to-fix-the-pictur e-quality-of-an-external-monitor

I couldn't get the fixes on this or referenced pages to work.

Asus tech support was no help.

I'll be returning my monitor, which is otherwise fantastic.

Hi jneb. I have the same combination as you and have tried all the linked things. I cannot get my MBP to render smooth fonts or see the pa329q as anything other than a TV. Even the HiDPI settings are not rendered correctly by the MBP on this monitor.

It's an awesome monitor, but those fonts look awfully bad for me at the moment.

Did you ever get a resolution to this, or did you return the monitor?
