Icon size in Launchpad changes

I noticed something weird.

When I open certain apps, such as "Preview" or "Google Chrome" (it doesn't matter if it's an original app or an app I've downloaded), my icon sizes in Lauchpad get a bit bigger - not much but the icon is a bit blurry. When I quit that app, the icon size is normal again. Not sure if this happens every time I open an app, but really often.

The size difference is not much, I even measured it: The diameter of a bigger, blurry icon is 1,5cm (for exaple "Photos" icon), and the diameter of a normal icon is 1,4cm (or 1,35cm).

Has anyone noticed this bug (I really hope it isn't a feature....)? It really is a small difference but for me,I think it is annoying.

And for exaple, if I add Previer in my Dock, the icon size will not change to normal.

Yes, I have turned off and on my Mac, no help 🙂

FWIW, I doubt it's a bug. For one thing the screen being drawn with Preview open is different than with it not open and I assume it's the case with most apps. Both the foreground and background would be different.

Personally I don't use Launchpad but I don't think it's meant to be gazed at, i.e. open long enough that it matters.

Not sure what you mean.

When I close Preview, the icons will be normal again.

If I decide to keep Preview in Dock, and then close Preview, icons will stay bigger.

I launched Preview so I could show you the bigger icons, and I knew opening Preview would trigger it. This bug also happens with other apps, but kind of occasionally. With Preview, it's every time the same.

I've tried to change Dock settings, but it has no effect on the Launchpad icon size bug.

If you are comfortable with terminal you can try removing launch pad .db

only copy and paste:

rm ~/Library/Application\ Support/Dock/*.db ; killall Dock

It resets your launchpad, is does not remove your launchpad

The .db automatically renews. 😉

Above you can see the normal icons.

And here you can see a bit bigger icons. As I said, not much difference, but a little bit and it's annoying. But I can live with that.

I would try making some changes to Dock size and Magnification, See if there is a correlation here

In the bottom screen shot you have Preview open. What happens if you actually take a screen shot of the same condition? With nothing open, just press "command + shift + 3".

I don't think it's a bug or a feature. I just think it's a consequence of drawing different screens.

Just my opinion of course.

No, I don't want to remove Launchpad! Launchpad is not my "problem", but this icon thing is. I'm okay with this situation, just wanted to know if anyone else noticed this bug (or feature)

leroy's suggestion doesn't remove Launchpad, it just resets it.
