Backspace key and "/' key not working - bluetooth wireless keyboard

I'm wondering if anyone can help as I've not found the solution to my problem in other forums.


I have a wireless, bluetooth keyboard which I was using connected to my MacBook Air (2013). Suddenly, the backspace key and "/' keys became intermittent in their function and eventually stopped working altogether. I unpaired the keyboard and repaired after restarting the laptop and function was restored but after typing for about 3-4 mins the same thing happened again. Now when I reconnect the keyboard there is no restoration to the function of the keys.


I have recently tried linking it to my partner's MacBook and neither key work at all on his either. When I use the keyboard with keyboard viewer you can see their is no response to either of these keys. Additionally, a cheap keyboard I bought has no problem and I can use all the keys.


Is this just a case of they are broken and I need a new keyboard (actually it's not that old but don't have proof of purchase) or is there someway to repair this. The cheap keyboard is so slow to respond I would have to look at getting another Apple one.

Assuming there is no record of liquid spillage, and there is an Apple store nearby, take it in. They will test it before condemning it. Being close together it is always possible some grit has got between the key tile and the working parts below. If they are doing the job properly, Apple people should take off the key tiles and check.


You give us no information about the devices you are using but if you are on 10.11 or above, a new Apple keyboard will be ideal. Try to find a moment to fill in your profile; it can be so helpful when you ask questions.


Incidentally, there is no formal repair program for minor accessories like keyboards and mice.

Thanks. I'm on MacOS Sierra 10.12.3 and the keyboard is an Apple A1314. No liquid spillage to my knowledge. I have actually taken off the key tile myself and cleaned it out a little - it doesn't appear to be a problem with the keys pressing down, just doesn't seem to be registering however I can take this into a store for someone to look at.
