i figured out how to create custom memories in the photo app. But is there a way to turn this memory into a movie? As far as i can tell, the memory movie only happens with the automatically generated memories. Thanks.

You can create a movie form a custom memory, if there are enough photos in the memory. Photos on your iPhone will not allow to create a movie from the custom memory, if there are not enough photos for a movie.

(Memories created from albums that don’t have enough photos and videos won’t generate a Memory movie.) You can also make a Memory movie from albums you create.

Make a memory from photos in an album
- Click an album under Albums in the sidebar.
- Click Show as Memory.
- Scroll down and click Add to Memories.
Is this how you're creating the custom memory? If so then it should be automatic.
NOTE: my replay was for Photos on a Mac, not on an iPhone or iPad. Opps.
