Have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 installed on my Mac Book Pro, model A1150 2006.
Desperately need to upgrade to update safari or chrome (which is not even available to my old version) but have no luck finding support for this. My otherwise well working laptop would be a shame to throw out.
Anyone with knowledge?

You still should be able to use your Safari, even that old version. Though Chrome requires OS X Mavericks 10.9 or later.
If you really need a new version of a browser, you can update your OS. Check out this page: How to get macOS Sierra - Apple Support
If your Mac doesn't meet requirements for Sierra, you will be given a possibility to upgrade to El Capitan.
That machine is too old to run anything more than Lion and that version of Safari is also out of date.

Chrome is a year out of date but should still run. Neither are very safe to use, however.

Thank you for your reply. I tried upgrading to El Capitan but this is what came up: OS X 10.11 requires a Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor.
Maybe its time for a new computer?
