Pandora starts randomly playing on phone

A fairly bizarre issue, but PandoraOne starts to play randomly on my iPhone 7 plus (plenty of space) without being user initiated (I can be in the other room or in an important meeting with my phone in my bag). I contacted Pandora without any resolution, so I am checking on here to see if anyone has experienced the same thing.

I am all up to date with iOS 10.2.1 and the latest Pandora iOS update, and the issue seems to persist, even after today's Pandora update. I am not sure if it matters, but I do have the Apple Watch on when it occurs and I have yet to duplicate the issue with it off.. Weird.. Currently, I've removed the Pandora Apple from my watch dock just incase, but it has yet to happen again.

The strangest thing about it is that even after I force quit Pandora on the phone, it still comes back and plays music after a few minutes. I tried a powering the phone off and on, and a hard reset, yet it continues to play music at random times. It has yet to do it at night when the watch is not on my wrist, so I am thinking that the watch is somehow the culprit.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

I have an iPhone 5 version 10.2 and have had this problem constantly for a long time, even today. Pandora will suddenly start playing. Yesterday was having a manicure and literally had to hear it start up in my handbag and was unable to do anything to stop it for some time. Pandora uses up media if one has a limited amount per month as I do. One way to stop it playing automatically when you are away from a wifi connection and on 4G is to turn off the cellular data for Pandora in Settings. (I had forgotten to do that yesterday). However, when you are back home on wifi it can start alone anyway even with the Pandora cellular data turned off. I don't know any way to stop this. I have to wonder if it is something Pandora has done with its application on purpose! I have the free version with ads. Wondering if the paid version has this same issue.

I think it has nothing to do with the Apple watch. I don't have an Apple watch and have this issue with my iPhone 5 10.2. What is annoying is that one has to first open Pandora to close it. The application plays without it even having been opened on my phone. Away from wifi you can turn off cellular date in Settings of Pandora to stop it. In range of wifi I don't know how to stop it.

Per my post on 4/7 ("We believe there is a fix for this in the latest update."), Pandora has updated their app to address the issue. If you haven't downloaded this update, you should update to Pandora version 8.3.2 and give it a try. For now, at least, this has resolved the automatic launching of Pandora on my phone. I'd be curious if anyone has done this update and experienced otherwise.

Me too, iPhone 6 here, both iOS and Pandora up-to-date. Can't be the Apple Watch, because I don't have one. I notice it happens a lot when I exit my car and my phone breaks the Bluetooth connection, but it also happens at random times, like just now, which is what finally prompted me to do a search and I found this thread. I've taken to keeping my volume down all the time, which is annoying, to put it mildly...

Just to confirm, have you deleted and reinstalled the Pandora app, and then made sure the app was updated to version 8.3.2? From anyone that says they still have the issue, I'd like to hear if you've both deleted the app, then reinstalled it and make sure it's up-to-date with version 8.3.2 as Pandora suggests. I'm not sure simply doing an update is enough on this one.

I have this problem with an Android phone and no watch. It just randomly launches and starts playing music in the middle of meetings. I do have Bluetooth on all the time so that it automatically connects to my car. Maybe its detecting wireless headphones in the office from someone else and thats launching it. It never launches at home where I don't have any bluetooth headphones.

My son has and iPhone SE and the last two mornings, while the phone has been on the charger all night, Pandora just randomly starts playing. This happened at 4am and then today at 5am. All apps were closed before the phone was put on the charger and the phone is in a central location. We do not have any apple watches. I checked the settings and there is no alarm set. I am not sure why this is happening and it is only happening on the one phone. Any ideas? (I have force restarted the phone, the app and all updates are complete)

I have a similar issue- no apple watch and its music app that opens.

For example today my phone dropped a call and started playing a song....but it also started in the middle of a voice chat I had another time today- I was using zoom.us and the music came on in the middle of a call.

A similar thing happens with siri- out of no where siri will activate and ask me what I want even though I have not pressed anything.

Or while I am listening to spotify, the voice command ding will stop playing the music and wait for a response- even though I have not pressed anything.
