do you need windows xp service pack 2 to download the new itunes?

please tell me if you know i need of the answer.

Compaq, Windows XP, i use internet explorer

Yes, you do... you can download it at the Microsoft website.

It even says on the system requirements for iTunes.

Try to delete all iPod, iTunes, and Quick Time files. For info on how to do this, go to the support main page, click on iTunes support, click on trouble installing iTunes or QuickTime to Windows, and click on completely remove iTunes and QuickTime. There, you will find detailed information on how to delete these files. Once you follow those instructions, try to download again. It worked for me. Good Luck!
