When I plugged my dead iPad in it shows the charger and an arrow pointing to iTunes. This has never happened and it will not turn back on. What do I do?

What do I do if my iPad is showing the charging cord pointing to iTunes? I can't get the iPad to turn on.

That message means that your device has gone into recovery mode and needs to be restored using iTunes on a computer. Follow the instructions in here.

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

You must use a computer to do this. Any computer running the latest version of iTunes will suffice. If you don't have access to another computer, you can make an appointment at an Apple Store and ask for their help.

In addition to what Demo has stated, know that by entering recovery mode (for reasons unknown), your iPad has lost all of it's content. To get that content back, you'll need to restore from a backup (that you hopefully have) after the device has been recovered (iOS re-written to the device).

If you have no backup, you'll have to setup the device as a "new" device and manually put your content back on.
