Apple maps not loading on watch just showing grids

The following steps may help (having resolved the same issue for some other users):

• On your Apple Watch, in the Maps app: tap on Nearby > select to view directions for a destination under any of the suggested categories.
• Or search for a destination and start navigation (afterwards, press firmly on the screen to end directions).
• After the directions have loaded, return to the main menu and view your current location to check whether the map is now shown correctly.

Try tapping on Search instead (the second step in previous reply).

Also be sure to tap on the display, rather than pressing down.

This procedure does fix the problem, but only temporarily.

The problem keeps returning..

searching for a location worked for me - had to try it twice for some reason. Has anyone tried 3.2 beta and does it fix the problem?
