Can't get Acer X34 Display to work as second monitor with MacBook pro

Have 13in Macbook Pro 2.9ghz connected to Acer X34 Display 34in (3440 x 1440) via right side thunderbolt port via USB-C Digital AV Multiport adapter and HDMI cable. Both monitors show in About this Mac - displays and in Displays pref but the Acer monitor shows "no signal" when turned on.

MacBook Pro, macOS Sierra (10.12.3)

Hi Peacan22,

I understand that you are trying to connect your Acer monitor to your MacBook Pro, but the Acer monitor doesn't see the video input. I'm happy to provide some troubleshooting to help with this.

First, make sure that you've changed to the appropriate input on the monitor using the steps provided here:

Change settings on Acer Predator monitor

Then follow the troubleshooting for your issue provided here:

I had the same problem. Turns out the Apple adapter I had only works with Thunderbolt 2 displays (like the old 27" Apple Cinema Display or my iMac). It's just a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 adapter.

So I bought a specific USB-C to Displayport adapter and now my 13" MacBook Pro (2016) works fine with my Acer X34 display. This is the one I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N2ORP84/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00. Good luck!
