Youtube Something went wrong tap to retry

The Issue: After an advert is played my iPad 2 shows ‘ An error occurred, tap to retry’. Retrying returns to the video. I am mirroring to Apple TV 2 (A1427 version 7.2.2 (8015) (connected via cable) iPad 2 - latest supported firmware (9.3.5 (13G36)

Troubleshooting: I have tested the issue on the iPad alone without mirroring and the issue doesn't replicate which leads me to focus on the Apple Tv as the issue.

Using my the YoutTube app on my iPhone 7 and mirroring to the Apple TV (if the iPhone auto locks and it gets to an advert, the original video pauses, the ad doesn't load.) Forcing iPhone to stay unlocked results in ad being played and results in the same issue. An error occurred, tap to retry.

Tried the following without success

- Reset network settings on iPad

- Removed YouTube app and reinstalled

- Reset Apple TV to default

- Contacted Youtube App support who also seem to think it's the Apple TV since the app is fine without mirroring.

iPad Mini, iOS 9.3.5

Hi. When using YouTube on my iPad, it inserts commercials every 10 minutes. These don't work very well with AirPlay, since they require pausing one stream while playing another. The Apple TV just plays the stream it's given. It would be up to the the iOS YouTube app to manage this, and I don't think it handles it very well. The Apple TV app works, and doesn't have the inserted commercials, so it's a better solution.

You can access the Youtube app directly, is there a reason why you are streaming from iPad?

If you are streaming from iPad/iPhone, you don't need to use mirroring, you can just use basic airplay

What version of the Youtube app are you running on IOS?

If the issue persists it would actually be up to the developer to fix as it is an issue with their implementation of airplay.
