Apple Remote Desktop Admin did not update to 3.9

Last week on 2/21/17 when the ARD 3.9 update was "given" to us by Apple my Client updated to 3.9 but my Admin is still at 3.8, so now they are in conflict and the application will not launch. When I go to the App Store and to the ARD page my only choice is to "Open" the app. How can I get the Admin to update to 3.9?

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Just an FYI, if any of your ARD Admin machines automatically update to the latest ARD Client 3.9.0, the ARD Admin app will not open until you update it as well. Once you update the Admin app to 3.9.0 you will have a panic moment when you first open it and see any machines that have not been updated to ARD 3.9 client will be listed as “Needs Update” and it will appear that you do not have access to those machines until they are updated.

However, after manually updating a small lab of 30 iMacs, I discovered that the default setting in the ARD Admin 3.9.0 app is to have the setting “Allow communication with older clients (less secure)" UNCHECKED. Once you check this box, you can then regain communication with the older clients and send the client updater package.User uploaded file

I wasn't having that problem. A client Mac upgraded to Remote Client 3.9 on 2/21, and was working fine with the Remote Desktop 3.8 on my laptop. However today, I got a notice to upgrade Remote Desktop to 3.9, which I did, and now I can't connect to the Remote Client running 3.9. The Remote Desktop running 3.9 says the Remote Client on the other Mac is running 3.3.1 or earlier! I'm not the only one having this problem as I've seen others say that after upgrading to Remote Desktop 3.9, they can't connect to their clients anymore. I tried Remote Desktop 3.8 on another Mac, and have no problem connecting from it to Remote Clients running 3.9.

I finally deleted the older Remote Desktop Admin app and then restated. I then was able to install the updated Admin app okay. I was able to connect to my 10.7 clients okay.

What a headache this has been!

On another machine, I even did a Time Machine restore in order to get the Admin app running again...I will try this on that one too.

I have lost so much time dealing with this!
