create custom printer cover page

Hello,

I am trying to create a custom cover page for the print system. I can find the default pages/variables in /usr/share/cups/banners/. It's not clear to me where the PostScript/PDF definition of what that page turns into is located any longer.

(Un)fortunately, I cannot edit / add anything to that directory. I'm sure it's now protected by System Integrity Protection (SIP) - I'm running Sierra/10.12. It doesn't appear that putting files in ~/.cups gets read by the system, I've tried that.

So how is someone supposed to create/install a custom printer banner page on recent versions of macOS? I didn't see any configuration file to edit/add a banner directory to in the /etc/cups directory.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

You're right, /usr is SIP-locked with the exception of /usr/local, which is where one is expected to put such stuff:

About System Integrity Protection on your Mac - Apple Support

As you probably know, this terminal command:

cupsctl WebInterface=yes

enables the CUPS web interface for CUPS:

http://localhost:631/

and my reading of the docs:

http://localhost:631/help/translation.html?TOPIC=Getting+Started&QUERY=

lis that you'll need to temporarily disable SIP to achieve your goals.

Any changes you make to files protected by SIP are likely to be over-written the next time you update macOS.

You'll probably need to get more detailed info from the CUPS forum.
