Apple Watch Nightstand mode does not turn display off after 15 or 70 sec. Also battery not charging in that mode

Just got new Apple Watch Series 2.

First charge was normal, without any problem.

Nightstand mode also worked as described: screen active only for 15 or 70 seconds.

Second charge failed. Watch stays on charge 4 hours and nothing changed at all.

After few hours of investigation (including restart, reset, Hard reset to factory setting, restore from back up, set up as new, etc) found that the reason of such fail Nightstand mode.

It's not going off anymore.

Once I place on charger, it's activating screen and stays like that forever.

Try to charge from Mac USB, iPhone charger and iPad (12 W) charger, but nothing helped.

Only turn off and deactivate nightstand mode.

Any idea why the nightstand mode always keep screen on?

How I can get it back (for 15 or 70 sec only) if I did not change any settings between 1st and 2nd charging?

Hi

When charging your watch in Nightstand Mode, check that:

All plastic wrap has been removed from both ends and both sides of the charging cable (check closely on the head of the charger).

User uploaded file

  • The back of your watch and the head of the charging cable are clean and dry (clean them with a soft, lint-free cloth).
  • The charging head is properly aligned with the back of the watch, with the concave / curved side touching it fully:
    • Some watch docks, stands, cases or protectors might hinder this.
    • If you are using any such accessories, try instead charging the watch by connecting it directly to the charging cable, without using them.
  • If possible, test by using another genuine Apple Magnetic Charging Cable (for example, by borrowing one from a friend).
  • If you are charging your watch by plugging the cable into mains power:
    • Check that the USB connector on the Apple Magnetic Charging Cable is pushed fully into the USB Power Adapter.
    • Check that the USB Power Adapter is pushed fully into the power outlet.
    • Try using a different power outlet (one that is known to be working properly).
    • You advised that you have already tried using different USB power adapters.
  • When charging via a USB port on your Mac, ensure that you use a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port, that the computer remains turned on and awake and the cable is plugged directly into the computer (not into, for example, an external keyboard).

The following steps may also help (check after each before moving on to the next):

If you have not yet done so, update your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest software, starting with your iPhone:

Restart both your iPhone and your watch:

Unpair and re-pair your watch:

If the issue then persists, I suggest that you contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider with a view to having your watch checked and, if recommended, serviced / replaced under warranty:

It is not normal for the display to remain active when your Apple Watch is charging and in Nightstand Mode.

If the issue persists after following all of the suggested steps (including updating the software on your devices), I suggest again that you contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider with a view to having your watch and power accessories checked and, if recommended, serviced / replaced under warranty:

Thanks for advice, but it's a standard steps, that I did from the very beginning.

Spend few hours of searching for the reason. Got some improvements after watch goes off (during factory reset).

After that step by step I came to the real reason.

I have found the reason of not charging: Nightstand mode wrong operation.

The screen not turn off. Always active. And consuming all power from the charger.

On the watch i have a sign of charging, but with active nightstand battery is not charging at all.

Repeat what I says above: during the first charge nightstand was working properly. After 15 seconds display turned off. When I wake them up, again after 15 seconds turned off.

Second time charging: as soon as the watch take horizontal position, they activate nightstand mode and display always active (consuming all the power from the charger).

So, to get battery charged, I have to disable nightstand. no other option for the moment.

Apple Watch Nightstand mode does not turn display off after 15 or 70 sec. Also battery not charging in that mode
