Links in email - show as text only, won't launch Safari

Hi

I am new to the Mac World - been a Windows user for years and finally decided that there must be something better! and there is - Mac...

If this seems like an absurdly easy question, I apologize but, I have received several emails that include links to various websites and the links are just shown as text (non clickable). How do I make links in email show up correctly and auto-start Safari when I click them inside an email?

Thanks
Rich

None of the links show up properly as clickable url's. Example below:

I sent an email to myself with these links included. The interesting part is that the ".com" suffix shows up with a red underline, like it is doing a spell check on that part of the url, but doesn't show the item as a hyperlink - only straight text.

Hi

Thanks for the tips - still not resolved.

Pref, Compose is set to: Rich Text
Paste as quote: pastes correctly but still not clickable when I compose and send to myself.

When I view an email from someone else, I can click a url contained therein and it opens Safari.

When I compse an email to myself, it doesn't work.

Links inserted are not clickable or don't become active until after the message is sent.

To turn selected text into a hyperlink, select the chosen text and at the menu bar go to Edit and select Add Hyperlink. Insert the URL for the link which must contain http:// such as http://www.apple.com and this applies to inserting a link only in the body of a message.

Http:// must not contain any caps - http://

Hyperlinks will be active before the message is sent but not links.

When checking these sent messages in the account's Sent mailbox, are the inserted links not active and are not active when the message is received?
