iCloud Photo Sharing and png format

Mac 10.12.3 Photos 2.0 iPadPro9.7 iOS 10.2.1

I have png images in my Photos Library. Using iCloud Photo Sharing I "shared" them to my iPadPro 9.7

On the iPadPro the images are now jpg. My intention was to export them with transparency.

Is there a way to specify format (i.e. png) when using iCloud Photo Sharing?

You have to turn off the "Optimize" option at "iCloud Photo Library", an even then, the old images on my iPhone continue to "prefer" the jpg when sharing, only the newer ones (after I turned it off) are keeping the transparency. Not only that, but my iPhone keeps incessantly asking for me to turn it back on, what a horrible system.

But yeah, it is a big issue for me as well. The only way I can get the transparencies back is to send myself an email with the image, then iCloud finally shares the uncompressed version.

I'm actually making a software that would allow people to add images as stickers, and this is making me crazy - Android doesn't handle files as bad as iOS...

This only happens if you have iCloud Photo Library on, but who doesn't? 😟

A curious reply, Larry. You write that "PNG is not supported" and attach something that says PNG IS supported.

I don't understand why, when I select PNGs in Photos and choose to Share with iCloud Photo Sharing, the images show up as JPGs (transparency not retained) on the iPadPro. Do you have another idea?

As with other things, I'll figure out a work-around -- but I'm wondering what's up with PNGs and iCloud Photo Sharing.

Thanks

No you can not choose a different format and PNG is not supported

File types that you can use in iCloud Photo Sharing

iCloud Photo Sharing supports JPEG, RAW, PNG, GIF, TIFF, and MP4, as well as special formats you capture with your iPhone, like slo-mo, time-lapse, 4K videos, and Live Photos. You can even share your Memory videos. When shared, photos taken with standard point-and-shoot cameras, SLR cameras, or iOS devices have up to 2048 pixels on the long edge. Panoramic photos can be up to 5400 pixels wide.

iCloud Photo Sharing supports both MP4 and QuickTime video file types, and H.264 and MPEG-4 Video file formats. Videos can be up to five minutes in length and are delivered at up to 720p resolution.

You can't upload RAW photos to iCloud Photo Sharing on your Windows PC.

That's a good clue, Larry, but no, the images are not edited and the INFO panel shows they are .png.

I've successfully EXPORTed them as PNG to be available for use from desktop folders.

I just had another idea: I'll try AIR DROPPING them from Photos to my iPad Pro. They'll need to be selected and put into an album, but it might work.

As for iCloud Sharing PNGs, I think there's a BUG that needs to be fixed.

Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it.
