CarPlay always launches Pandora automatically

I have a 2017 Honda CR-V with CarPlay. Whenever I get into the car and plug in the phone through USB, CarPlay will always launch Pandora, even if I was using a different music app the last time I drove.

This is very inconvenient, because CarPlay will not allow me to just go to the home screen and choose Spotify (it will take me back home every time I try it), instead I have to manually unlock the phone, close Pandora, and then launch Spotify.

Does anyone know how to prevent CarPlay from launching Pandora automatically without having to uninstall the app?

Any help is appreciated.

I’ve been experiencing the very same problem in a new Chevy except Apple Music keeps Auto loading. It happens while using CarPlay and since the last iOS update, my iPhone 6plus has started to slow down, so when it auto launches Apple Music, it eats up resources so if the map is going, it gets knocked out as well and then the audio deteriorates to a crackle. The only thing that helps is to unplug and plug in again.

Tried their new Twitter service and subjected myself to it. Don't bother with them. It appears they employ 3rd party Call centers to answer. I left my name and number since they offer callbacks. I guess I wasn’t specific that I needed someone that could actually help. The rep that called me was Under the impression that CarPlay was an app that could be deleted then reloaded again. This was a bad sign. He clearly did not know what CarPlay was. I eventually hung up since I just realized he must have thought CarPlay was a game app where you play with automobiles. I texted them back. They offered another rep. I asked for a real Apple employee. Have not heard back from them. I was asked for sensitive info such as serial number and email. and after a day, I gave it to them. the next day I got a message on my iPad that a new phone was associated with my credentials. An update maybe? Have not gotten an answer as to why I was asked for that info. I’ve been checking and no update yet. Perhaps Apple has decided to be more aggressive in forcing its customer base to upgrade our phones along with them. Tonight, I noticed that when I paired a Bluetooth earpiece, Apple Music loads again. I wonder if Bluetooth is conflicting with the new updated iOS? CarPlay still crashes my phone.

I wonder if Apple is aware of this. Maybe this is just a case of app misbehavior (in this case Pandora) and not even Apple's

fault, but this is still quite frustrating.

By the way, I thought I was using the OEM cable, but this is not the case. Today I noticed the cable I've been using is a certified 3rd party I bought a while ago.

Anyone else experiencing this issue: can you please validate whether you are using OEM or a 3rd party cable?

Nope not just a Honda problem.. I Spend 15 mins every time I plug my iPhone into my Kenwood in my VW, fighting with my radio to stop Pandora from playing and get back into my iTunes!!!!

It launches Pandora every single time, and then when I stop it and get iTunes to work it will play 10-15 seconds of the song and launch Pandora again!! This will happen about 3-5x's before I get back to my Library......

Any suggestions asides from deleting the APP?? I send Pandora a question about this as well....

Mine is not an OEM cable. It is a higher end one I got at the Apple Store that has a small magnet for my car dash that keeps the magnified lighting plug tip against it when not in use. Love it. Anyhow, the Pandora issue has stopped. I did a hard restart of my phone and turned off/on the car stereo. Don't know if that did it or if Pandora fixed it in an update?

This is also happening to me. I have a 2017 chevy Colorado and own a iPhone 7. I stared to notice it about two months ago. while driving it played a song in my iTunes, or so i thought. I realized the song was a different version of what i thought i had.

I did not start pandora in CarPlay because it never loads most of the time anyway. Same thing yesterday, i never looked to see if my music was playing on the screen because it played two songs i have in my file. Then a commercial came on.

I tried to play pandora two days ago and it would not start up, (as usual) so i just switched to my music. I stopped at my destination and i thought i closed everything on my phone. I also noticed my battery seemed to be draining faster than usual. So, i am wondering if pandora keeps trying to load? maybe it interrupts to get your attention if you are using the free service?

I’ve just had this issue this morning. My 2017 Chevy Equinox was in the shop when I added Pandora to my IPhone 6s. This morning when I go in a plugged in my phone, it loaded Pandora for music instead of the music that is already on muni phone. When I opened Music and tried to shuffle the songs, the car stereo merely paused and Pandora instead of switching over, despite the Music on the phone showing that the song was playing. I haven’t found any setting within the apps, phone, or vehicle to fix this. If the problem persists, I’ll delete Pandora, but this shouldn’t be the only viable option. It seems to me that third party apps shouldn’t be the default unless you setup the phone that way yourself.
