Podcasts no longer download-produces error message

Hello All,
As of yesterday, when I click the 'GET' button to download a podcast in iTunes, I'm seeing the following behavior: The downloads category in the menu on the left appears for a split second then disappears; the little exclamation point error icon appears next to the podcast name. When I click on the error icon, a message box pops up with the following:

There was a problem downloading "Name of Podcast". You do not have enough access privileges for this operation. Please check that the url is correct and the connection to the network is active and try again.

Can anyone help? I'm stuck on what to do.

Here is some possibly relevant information:
v 7.0.2
worked as of last Friday
podcasts already downloaded do play fine
the music folder is on an external volume and there don't appear to be any issues with it (permissions are 777 throughout, I can read and write to it, it appears to be 100% operational, etc)
iTunes is mapped to the correct music folder
no parental limits are set
internet connection is working
connecting to ITMS is working
subscribing to a new podcast produces the same behavior
iTunes and computer have been restarted
*Other user accounts on the computer are NOT having issues and are able to download podcasts*

Thank you,
Ryan

Still not working but I have a little more information.

Rebuilding my iTunes library had no effect.

Rebuilding the preference file did have an effect:
The new preference file reset all the preferences (obviously) including where the itunes music folder is located. Forgetting to change the folder back to the external volume where all my music is kept, I tried downloading a podcast. It worked. I then tried remapping the itunes music folder to my actual music folder and it failed again, producing the same error I originally posted.
Okay, so there's an issue with my external drive. Well, perhaps, BUT, as I mentioned above, the drive appears to be working fine. I can read and write files to it, I can play music and podcasts off of it, and--here's the kicker--a different user account on the Mac, which shares the same external music volume is able to download podcasts to the drive.
So, there is a little more information, though I'm really not sure the next steps to take to troubleshoot this.

RQ,

Thanks for replying. I think we went through almost the same thing. I'm not using the default folder for iTunes, though I am using one from the same drive as the OS. I did the same as you--tried it out on another user ID and it worked fine. I deleted my iTunes pref files, then tried downloading the podcasts (but to the default folder) and it worked once again. I remapped back to where all my music is stored and it messed it up once again. So I compared the permissions on both folders and did some very minor tweaking, then did the same thing again (deleted the prefs, remapped the music folder) and now it's working again. I'm happy it's fixed, but it was kind of ridiculous to have to do all this when I didn't do anything to cause it (except for maybe update iTunes). Thanks!

Problem solved.

The fix that worked for me was setting the external volume to 'ignore ownership'. I did this by selecting the volume in the Finder (Pathfinder actually, but I confirmed that using Finder works as well), selecting 'get info', and clicking 'ignore ownership'.

Still don't know what caused it to break, but I'm not going to pursue it any more as long as it continues to work.
