A normally-hidden partition which can be used for reinstalling the OS and fixing some types of issues. If you're using Mac OS X 10.7 or newer(not including a system which came from one of Apple's USB installation thumbdrives), rerun the installer or restart with the Option, Command, and R keys held down.

If you're using a Lion system which came from one of Apple's USB installation thumbdrives, you won't be able to get a recovery partition without installing the Mac App Store version or upgrading further.
