iTunes Playlist Icon Question

Sometimes an icon appears to the left of a song title, and it looks like a circle with an exclamation point inside it. What is it and why does it appear? When this icon appears I can't play that song.

I am using the most current version of iTunes.

Thanks, Mark

Hi turingtest2,

Hope you had a good weekend. I did! Before I go any further I looked into Flash Drives and it looks like I can get a 128 GB flash drive for under $30. Which one do you like:

PNY - Turbo Attaché 4 128GB USB 3.0 Type A Flash Drive - Blue

SanDisk - Cruzer 128GB USB Flash Drive - Black/Red

Now, I have downloaded Sync Toy, but I am having some trouble with the directions you provided. I tried it a couple times but I get a box indicating a problem. If you are around today please reply.

How about this one?

Efaster(TM) Simple Hot Selling Sale Wooden USB 2.0 128GB Flash Drive Pen Drives Wood U Disk

The ScanDisk WAS $24.99 at Best Buy and Amazon over the weekend, but it's $29.99 today. The PNY might be hard to find because it's not available online and not available at my local Best Buy.

After I click browse to set the left folder, I selected my iTunes folder. Do I then click on OK to put the iTunes folder in the left box? It doesn't say to. After I've done that I click the right hand browse button to set the right folder. What folder should I select to Make New Folder? Mine doesn't match the picture. After I select a folder should I click on Ok to put it in the right box? Then, after I click on Make New Folder should I type in "iTunes" or "iTunes 2" or "iTunes Backup" what?

That's as far as I got after a few tries.

Yes, I'm sure that will be fine.

Yes, I've updated the tip to make that clearer.

Select the root folder of the drive that is going to hold the backup, e.g. your new flash drive, then click Make New Folder, type in iTunes, then click OK.

If you want to be able to leave the drive connected to your laptop this would be a good model: https://www.amazon.com/Lexar-JumpDrive-128GB-Flash-Drive/dp/B012PKV7RC/ref=pd_cp _147_3/166-9577143-1377804?_encoding=UTF… But really anything that has enough capacity will do.

Any new flash drive is going to show in the same area as OS (C), HP Recovery (D), DVD RW Drive (E), probably as <Manufacturer's Name> (F). You'll find it.

I don't have a laptop....only a desktop (for iTunes)

Did we get off the Sync Toy subject? You keep saying Flash Drive. I was planning to back up my iTunes with Sync Toy onto my desktop first. Then, after I buy a new 128 GB flash drive I was planning to transfer sync Toy to the flash drive I bought. Are we talking about the same thing?

Let me ask again: Why do I need to back up iTunes if I have already backed up my playlist?

Talk to you tomorrow.

My mistake about the laptop. The point of a backup is to copy the data to a different physical drive so that it is available if something bad happens to the original copy. The iTunes library is on your C: drive. The backup needs to be somewhere else.

As I understand it your existing method of backing up is to manually copy selected files to another location when you first add them to your library. Backing up with SyncToy will backup any changes you might make later, such as adding artwork or correcting details. The software efficiently works out exactly what files have been changed so that only those files are copied when you update the backup, and you don't have to try to keep track of the changes yourself.

Hi turingtest2,

OK then. Other than changing "Compilations" I have not made any changes at all (adding artwork, correcting details etc etc) to my iTunes since 2009. And, after making THIS mistake I don't intend to mess with it anymore. So, I think I am not going to use Sync Toy to back up what I already have backed up. But, thank you so much for suggesting this option to me!

Once again, THANK YOU SO MUCH for all your help advice AND patience! I will definitely be back should something happen not of my doing, and I have already started recommending you and this website to my family and friends.
