Can I install MacOs 10.7on a MacPro 1,1

I have a MacPro 1,1. The hardware overview says 1,1, but the tag on the computer say MacPro 3.0

I need to have at least 10.7 Lion to run my tax software. I tried to install 10.8, got message it was not compatible

with the computer. Will 10.7 be compatible ? If not, why ? Can I upgrade anything to make this possible ?

Thanks

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), 8 GB ram

According to the downloadable http://MacTracker.ca database your model

if it's MacPro 1.1 (first edition, aluminum MacPro) ~ should run Lion 10.7.5.

To acquire Lion 10.7 from the App Store involves buying download code

from the Apple Store, first; then the code is applied in App Store to get

the download. Assuming the Mac is running 10.6.8 & can see App Store.

Memory Upgrade: (note installation of matching pairs, etc in specific slots)

Maximum Memory 32 GB (Actual) 16 GB (Apple)

Memory Slots 8 - 240-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 ECC fully-buffered DIMM (FB-DIMM) (matched pairs)

The unit could also use up to 32GB RAM, although according to Apple specs

an upper limit was originally stated to be 16GB; by using quality upgrade RAM.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂

Not sure that you could upgrade to a later Mac OS X or macOS than Lion 10.7.5;

but the hardware can support other systems of appropriate compatibility to the

architecture. Some versions of Linux for Mac; or with a 'virtual machine' software

it may be possible to load other OS into the Mac. The limit is with Lion 10.7.5 in

use of 'virtual machine' software.

Several other computer systems could run on the Intel-Mac series of that vintage.

Later macOS/X installers and drivers likely aren't matched to work in MacPro1.1.

Someone may have figured out how to tweak the firmware for a later Mac OS X.

And then you'd have to source a later OS X. ~ I don't know about that aspect...

Good luck & happy trails! 🙂
