mail notifications on apple watch give option to archive instead of delete

I have a gmail account as my primary account and icloud as my secondary account on my iPhone. Both are set to move discarded messages into 'deleted mailbox'. My Apple Watch is set to mirror settings on my iPhone.

However, when I get an email notification on my Apple Watch for the gmail account, it only gives the option to archive, not delete. If an email comes into my icloud account, it gives the option to delete like it should.

I've changed the setting to archive and back to delete and it will work for the next email then go back to only archive instead of delete. I've tried restarting both Watch and iPhone but it still shows archive instead of delete.

Any suggestions on a fix?

thanks!

Hi

The following steps may help:

On your iPhone, to go: Settings > Mail > Accounts > Gmail Account > Advanced:

  • Under the heading "Move Discarded Messages Into", select Deleted Mailbox (if it is not already selected).

Unpair and re-pair your watch
