My progress bar for file transfers has disappeared after updating to El Capitan, as has the bar at the bottom of finder that showed how much space was used and how much space was taken. How can I get these back?

My progress bar for file transfers has disappeared after updating to El Capitan, as has the bar at the bottom of finder that showed how much space was used and how much space was taken. How can I get these back? I use the features on a regular basis. Right now I am trying to transfer a large folder of photos to my backup hard drive, but I have no way of telling if it is working or when it might be finished. This is extremely frustrating.
