Hi,
I bought 2 singles (Shape of you, Castle on the Hill) by Ed Sheeran from iTunes released before his whole album came out, and now I want to buy the whole album, but iTunes wouldn't let me complete the album, meaning will I have 2 copies of the same song if I do buy it? Or is there any way to not let that happen? If it can't be done, it would seriously discourage people to buy the promo singles by the artists in the first place.

There are several versions of Castle on the Hill available. If you bought the single track from the Divide album, iTunes will recognize it for purposes of "Complete My Album." If you bought the single as the single release, iTunes does not connect it with the album Divide.

I suspect that iTunes does literal string-matching on the album title, and when two album titles are even a little different it might not notice that they are pretty darn equivalent.

If you really think it should have been eligible for Complete My Album, you can certainly take the matter to iTunes Customer Service:
