Does El Capitan support Adobe InD CS4, Illy CS2?

I have a 2008 iMac, OS 10.6.8, Safari 5.1.1, Address Bk 5.0.3, iMail 4.6. I cannot upgrade OS bc later versions do not support my legacy apps: Adobe InD CS4, Illy CS2 & PS Elements 3. My business cannot sustain (month rental fee) of Adobe Cloud apps.

My intention is to buy an iPad and sync to my outdated OS Mac if possible. My question is if I synch both devices will I be able to migrate all addresses, bookmarks (Safari) & existing archived eMs?

The title of your post and the body of your post NEVER mentioned anything about Photoshop Elements!

Nothing!

I can only offer advice and solutions based on supplied info from you!

If you don't supply us with all the important pertinentand relevant info, how is that some else's fault?

Your version of PSE is, probbaly, also old and outdated!

You need Photoshop Elelments 12.

This is the only version that'll run on OS X 10.8.5

PSE 12 is NOT a fortune to purchase, guy!

Try purchasing a full or upgrade of older full Photoshop versions!

Now, you would have something to complain about!

Really?...

Whaddya you talking about!

Apple and Adobe aren't going to support very old legacy software and OSes forever!

Apple NEVER supported older OSes forever!

Your are running a nearly an 11 year old OS X version!

Your are running a version of Adobe Illustrator that is nearly 14-15 years old!

So, how, exactly, is this Apple's OR Adobe's fault!

When you choose, as I did, to run legacy OSes with old, legacy software, at some point, one day, that software is going to stop working BECAUSE of its age and non-compatibility with much more modern operating systems and more advanced third party softwares!

I gave you a perfectly viable option.

Your AI CS2 and CS4 software will still work under the pay version OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion and there is a secure web browser for it as I linked to.

http://www.apple.com/shop/product/D6377Z/A/os-x-mountain-lion

For your AI CS2 software, this is the last OS X version that will work with it!

I am using OS X 10.8.5 with all of my older Adobe CS3 and CS4 legacy software and current Waterfox web browser with no issues.

I can still sync photos/images from all of my iDevices and that version of iTunes still works with all of my iOS 9.3.5 iDevices.

OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion is still secure enough to still use.

That IS THE only available option to you.

The decision is yours.

Good Luck to you@

No.

Support for Adobe CS2 ended, basically, at OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.

Adobe CS2 is very old.

You would either have to start subscribing/"conscribing"/renting Adobe CC apps (if you decide to upgrade your OS X) or try and find an older version of Adobe CS either CS 4, 5 or 6, that all still run on OS X El Capitán, which could get expensive from third party sellers as the price of the non-subscription Adobe CS packages has, basically, skyrocketed due to demand and from Adobe users, like me, who absolutely refuse to monthly rent software that I will never own.

I was lucky enough to find an upgrade version of the Adobe CS4 Design Premium that was, pretty much dirt cheap and works and was from a legal online from Amazon.

I got this awhile ago, just before pricing for older Adobe CS version packages starting to get out of control.

What version of OS X are you currently running?

If you are still running OS X 10.6.8, there are things we can do to keep you more current on web browsers on OS X 10.6.8.

So, if you need to upgrade your OS X, you are going to need to upgrade your Adobe apps.

If you find this is NOT possible, there are cheaper alternatives to Adobe software.

Thanks MichelPM. I am running 10 6 8 as mentioned in original post. Actually, all my Adobe apps/versions (also listed above, original post), iMail work seamlessly with my ancient OS. My main issue is Safari 5.1.1 which is the last version upgrade for my OS. It is really stumbling. About 8 mo ago, I fired up Firefox which worked great with my OS. However, I just learned they will only back support to 10 8. And it is beginning to sputter, too. Can you suggest another browser which synchs with my OS 10 6 8? I did a chat with Apple today where they basically chided me for having a 10 yr old computer with outdated OS. They offered me no solution to synching a new iPad to my 'stone–age' computer; ie, iMail files, Address Book & hundreds of Safari bookmarks. Perhaps it's time to sever Apple partnership. Frustration factor, 10.

For OS X 10.6.8, your only option for a secure web browser is the Mozilla Firefox ESR 45.x found here.

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/faq/

This version of Firefox has been regularly updated for security release updates, but this version has NOT received any NEW FEATURE updates.

Ignore all of the enterprise, organaisations and educational notes.

Download, install and use this version.

Mozilla is supporting this Firefox ESR for 10.6.8-10.8.5 until sometime in April 2017.

There are no other web browser options for 10.6.8 after April.

The only web browser support left on OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion is the Waterfox web browser.

https://www.waterfoxproject.org/

So, you CAN dedide to keep using the last released version of the Firefox ESR once support ends in April OR dedide to upgrade your OS X and any software that you are using.

I am in a similar situation as you as I am using a LOT of older, legacy software.

OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leoprd is very old and I, FINALLY, saw the handwriting on wall and last January 2016, I moved on to to both OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion AND OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks.

This is as far as I can go though with much of my older software that I STILL continue to use everyday..

Good Luck to You!

"For your AI CS2 software, this is the last OS X version that will work with it!"

Upon installing ML 10.8.5, I lost PE & my best app, AI CS2. I've invested mucho dinero in AI upgrades over 24 yrs losing this app! And I refuse to pay month installments. I am now searching for a nominal cost PE and an (un)Adobe Illy alternative app. ))-:

AI CS2 is positively confirmed to work on OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion.

Check this website.

http://roaringapps.com/

Make sure when you check compatibility to click the options button and select OS X Mountain Lion.

The only thing that still functions in the CS2 suite on OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion IS Illustrator CS2!

Have you tried reinstalling it from scratch and all of the CS2 updates and then try launching and running Illustrator CS2?

You may have to reinstall AI CS2 from scratch!

I had to do this with both Adobe CS3 and CS4. Had to reinstall EVERYTHING from scratch, including updates!

Do you still have all of your Adobe registration info/codes?

You can get all of the AI CS2 updates from Adobe's website.

I don't care what the Roaring Apps dot com states Illy CS2 is dead on my computer running ML!!!! The Illy icon has a horsey Circle with a diagonal horsey line running thru it!!! I have an associate who works for Adobe. He advised that Illy CS2 has not been supported since Yosemite. He added that this is the only "support" Adobe offers for Illy CS2

Okay,

Despite what the RoaringApps website has reported, it appears, in fact, that none of the CS2 suite is compatible with OS X after OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.

So, my humble apologies.

It took me some time to do some web searching to confirm this and the reasons.

So your are correct.

So, I found you a CS3 Mac version of AI on Amazon through a third party seller, but I do not know if you want to pay their offering price or not.

The less expensive Illustrator alternaive is Serif Labs Affinity Designer.

I use this, as well, and while there is about a week or two learning curve to get acclimated to the way Affinity Designer works.

I find I like Affinity Designer and the way it works for vector drawing A WHOLE LOT BETTER than AI.

I have pretty much stopped using AI and use just to import my artwork into AI or Photoshop for use at the printer.

I really haven't use AI that much, in over a year, and spend more time doing vector art in Affinity Designer.

I even like Affinity;s UI better even though it is NOT much Adobe-like.

Affinity Designer is a way cheaper, very competent and worthy Illustrator replacement.

So check the Affinity website here.

https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/

https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/designer/full-feature-list/#system-requirements

Take a look at Affinity Photo, also.

https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/photo/full-feature-list/#system-requirements

Both of these app are $50 each and NO subscription!

See if Affinity Designer will work for you.

Both these apps will run on OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion.

Serif Labs is working to have a complete layout, vector and photo editing suite that is scads cheaper for both prfessionals, aemi-professionals and hobbyists!

I supplied all the links you need to get yourself up and running on OS X 10.8.5.

And I did retract my last post to you as I was in error.

Sorry & Good Luck!
