using a Hawkings HPS1U Print server -Help!

I installed a Hawkings HPS1U print server between the router and the printer. The printer is a HP Photosmart C4150 All-in-one. My network has one Windows PC running Windows XP Home Edition, the other 3 are Macs: a 700 MHz iMac G3, a 800 MHz iMac G4 and a 450 MHz G4. Everything works great on the Windows side. But I can't get any of the Macs to work. When the printer is connected directly to the Macs USB ports, the print find, but once the printer is connected via the print server, nothing. I don't know if I using the wrong setting in the Printer Setup Utility or not. After reading some of the post here, I downloaded both the hpijs driver and the ESP ghostscript. After I installed both, I ran the Printer Setup Utility and changed the protocol to the HP Jet Set Direct - Socket setting. I sent a print job to the printer and it work, well kinda of. Instead of the printing one page document, the printer began spitting out page after page of symbols, numbers and command-line looking stuff. So, I don't know what to do at this point. I look on the support model list for the hpijs driver, and the HP Photosmart C1450 was not listed. HELP!

Thanks Greg for the reply. Althpugh your response was not very helpful, due to the fact that I had already looked into the comm protocol, I did come across a response you made on a macosxhints forum to someones question about Hawking HGU1 being Mac Compatible that helped me to determine the correct Queue name for the HP Photosmart C1450. I had the correct IP address, but getting the right queue name was tricky. Next, I used the Gimp-print driver yoiu suggested. That resulted in the printer responding, but it just feed all the sheets of paper through without printing anything. So, I experimented with the Foomatic/hpijs drivers, and the HP Photosmart P1315 Foomatic/hpijs driver did the trick. I got a perfect printed page of the document. So, anyoney else who may be having the same trouble with this particular HP model printer, that is the solution.
