Note that if you have requested unlocking, and received an email from your carrier saying it is unlocked, it usually takes another 2 days to complete the process.

Thanks. I assume this also applies to iPhone 7 and iPhone 7+. But models pre-dating iPhone 6/6+ are out of luck.
I moved my iPhone 5s from Verizon to AT&T for my wife's use.
but the AT&T iPhone 7 model cannot be moved to Verizon. See the Cellular and Wireless section of http://www.apple.com/iphone-7/specs/

Very interesting. Indeed I have an iPhone 7 with AT&T and it is model A1778. That does show up in your reference as not being supported by Verizon! I did not know this.
Personally, I've been happy with AT&T for many years, and have no interest in switching. Carriers aside, I would also be very reluctant to give up GSM to move to CDMA as that seems like a step in the wrong technology direction.
I appreciate the knowledge, thanks!

After a few years of supporting both GSM & CDMA it may be just a one year thing of not doing that with the AT&T iPhone 7 model; it was due to a switch to using 2 sources for modems and Intel (the new source) may in the future offer compatibility with both. I was with AT&T (and Cingular) for years and was happy but started spending 3 months a year in an area where they had lousy service. Of course as soon as I switched to Verizon, AT&T improved their service so after 3 years I switched back when I got the iPhone 7. Luckily my 5s was compatible with both networks and hopefully with the 7 I'll have no need to switch again.
Specifically which model iPhone are you talking about?
AT&T is a GSM carrier. Verizon is a CDMA carrier. Many iPhone models that support AT&T can never work with Verizon.
Verizon will activate iPhone 6/6+ and 6S/6S+ on their network. These models are compatible, as they support both CDMA and GSM/LTE.
Thanks. I assume this also applies to iPhone 7 and iPhone 7+. But models pre-dating iPhone 6/6+ are out of luck.
AT&T said my phone was unlocked. however when i went to the verizon store it was not yet unlocked. is there anything else i need to do.
