itunes error 206

hi there, I've been experiencing this error a lot quite often now. In the beginning, it was only 2 songs that i couldn't download. Wasn't really bothered. But now it has come up to 49 songs. Didn't even realise it until today. It started from December 2016. Was going through some songs and just randomly downloading it when itunes started showing error 206. I have roughly above 2200 songs altogether in my icloud library. I am subscribed to itunes match. I bought nearly half of the entire song collection. So i'm kinda upset that i can't download the songs which i bought from itunes. Considering i've invested nearly £1000 on it in 5yrs. Before i came here to speak out. I will list the steps i took to try and fix the issue which didn't work.

1. I uninstalled itunes completely and reinstalled it again after downloading from the apple website.

2. I signed out and signed in to my account. Restarted my laptop and tried again.

3. Joined another wifi network and tried to download.

4. Replaced the current " itl " file with the one from september 2016. (itunes library file) i keep older itunes libraries.

5. I completely updated windows updates and drivers on my windows 8.1.

6. I reformatted my laptop and freshly installed windows 10. Updated all windows updates and drivers.

It painstakingly took more than 6 hours to try and fix that error myself. Going through google, youtube and apple help advises. I would have tried to test if the downloads work on an iphone or ipad if i had one. Currently stuck with an andriod phone since i lost my iphone 7plus, 2 months ago. No other means to try it out.

So can somebody please help me with this? I am completely lost with this one here. Can't play or download the songs i bought in itunes when my only music zen is from my laptop itunes.

Not an error I've run into before, nor one that I can find documented by Apple. There are some hints that clearing the iTunes preference file used to fix it. iTunes 12.5.1.21 introduced a change with the way preferences are saved. It seems that what used to be stored in:

C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunesPrefs.xml

is now stored in a number of files spread amongst these folders:

C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\Cookies

C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\Preferences

C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\Preferences\ByHost

If these three folders don't exist on your system creating them may allow iTunes to save its preferences properly. Alternatively deleting those that you do have may allow them to be recreated with the right permissions so that changes are stored in future.

Type %appdata%<return> in Explorer's address bar to reach the Roaming folder without having to display hidden folders.

Also while iTunes is closed you might try to delete any Download folder present inside the iTunes Media folder, and when you have iTunes running again try Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Reset Cache.

When iTunes is downloading and you have the progress window open try unticking the box that reads Allow simultaneous downloads. It may be more stable with that feature off.

hi there,

thanks for the help. But even after doing all that, it's still the same. I rebooted my laptop once more to start afresh. The problem is still the same. Can it possibly be from apple side? Something wrong with their servers that can't seem to download the songs? Or is it completely from the customer side?

I'm really grateful for all the help. Any new ideas or help would be very much appreciated.

I'm not having any trouble downloading content today so more likely something at your end. See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for more advice.
