Upgrading to El Capitan

You can upgrade to El Capitan from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. El Capitan can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.

To upgrade to El Capitan you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion or later installed. Download El Capitan from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. El Capitan is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

Macs that can be upgraded to OS X El Capitan

1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later

2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later

3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later

4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later

5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later

6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later

7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later

To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities' folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

Good Point about the Printer Driver ....I just upgraded my old 2008 Macbook Pro to El Capitan and now my Lexmark Printer doesn't print . Strangely the Green light is on like it it wirelessly connected ,,,,but it says when I try to print that that the Printer is not connected ? I tried downloading the recommended driver but that isn't fixing the problem. I think it has something to do with the wireless network name I changed due to being hacked . I hooked up the usb to usb and tried printing that way pushing the WPS button on the router .....no luck ! Then I tried the ethernet to printer from my Mac ....still no go . I am at my wits end . Apple support helped me do the upgrade and I was left at the point where my Mail program had to update ....that was weeks ago and nothing is happening ....the line hasn't moved ? I suppose I will have to call back to see if they can help me with this .... I needed to print my Car Registrations and was I suppose a bit too optimistic ,,,,for now I am way overdue ..... YIKES ! I have been in and out of the hospital thats why weeks go by . I have a new Mac ready to fire up ....but was warned by my Internet provider and some security people ,,,,,whatever I do DONT start using that until you know for sure your WIFI is secured .... I had a personal ugly family problem and they have someone that works for that company ,,,so I believe the is the only way they were able to get into my wifi... So for now I just wanted to get rid of the many duplicate photos on the old Mac with one command rather than manually ,,, because they are taking me to court and I need the photos asap.... and would like to be able to Print again...My CD drive that came with my Mac has been broke for years so I can't just pop that in and reset up my Printer ... I am not that smart with computer issues (Hello) LOL ,,, I am embarrassed to say how many hours I have wasted trying . Now my cats Zen waterbowel pump broke 3 days ago and I was ready to just replace it ....but after reading the q&a on Amazon support said call in they probably can get it running again ....that was all I needed ,,,after 3 hours I got it running again .....I love those kind of challanges but computer issues are not quite as logical for me... Thanks to anyone who took the time to read my jumbled up mess here ,,,,sorry to say I have chemo brain and am a mess in general . Any help is greatly appreciated .... Thanks in advance to any responders .
