I don't understand why my tv gets turned off when my Apple TV 4 goes to sleep. All devices (ATV, Blu-Ray, DVR) are connected through a receiver. I'll be watching a program on cable and when the ATV goes to sleep, it shuts off the tv even though I'm not watching anything from ATV.
Is this normal? Any way of avoiding this annoying function?

The ATV can function along with HDMI CEC, which allows it to turn on/off TV and switch inputs as well as control volume, when such activity is detected. If you don't want this behaviour you can disable it

Hi. It's clunky, but my solution is to force ATV to sleep (hold Home button, then click) before using a different TV input. This turns the TV off, and I need to turn it back on to use a different input.
