My old iPod 1g won't connect to WiFi at all, how do I fix this?

I have an old iPod 1g that I have had since it was passed down to me. I have gotten as close as I could to the router but it still doesn't connect to WiFi! I have returned it to factory settings multiple times but still no luck! It is currently on iOS 3.1.3. So how do I fix this?
