Remote desktop 3.8 won't connect to ARD 3.2.2 on Leopard (10.5)

I got a macbook with leopard running on it to run some older software and i'm trying to remote manage it with remote desktop client (3.8) it shows the computer on my network but when i try to control it it asked for the user name and password to access the computer witch i have enabled on the leopard machine and when i select add it just sits their infinitely trying to verify and nothing happens. thanks any help is appreciated, bin at this for a few hours now and can't figure it out
