how do you open a .pkg file which is a firmware update for a Sony TV

Hello,

I need to open a .pkg file which is a firmware update for our Sony TV. What is the easiest way for a novice (me!) to open the file on an iMac, and then load it onto a USB. The file does not need to be saved or used on the iMac.

Thanks

Hello Repurr,

Apparently, you just copy the file to a USB stick, then plug the stick into the TV. I strongly suggest erasing the USB stick first. Make sure to format it as FAT so it is Windows-compatible (that is the default).

Here are some sample instructions that may or may not apply to your TV: https://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?upd_id=7151

These instructions only mention Windows, but that is just about copying the PKG file to the USB stick.
