I need to open a .pkg file which is a firmware update for our Sony TV. What is the easiest way for a novice (me!) to open the file on an iMac, and then load it onto a USB. The file does not need to be saved or used on the iMac.

Apparently, you just copy the file to a USB stick, then plug the stick into the TV. I strongly suggest erasing the USB stick first. Make sure to format it as FAT so it is Windows-compatible (that is the default).

These instructions only mention Windows, but that is just about copying the PKG file to the USB stick.

Thanks for your note. I've tried that and get the above message.
To open a pkg file just click on it, twice.
Then I have no idea, it should open (assuming it is an OS X compatible file)
Restart and try again.
