issue: popping/cracking sound while playing music via airplay

hey there!


i recognized a really disturbing sound issue while listening to music via airplay

on my brand new B&W zeppelin wireless.

the disturbing noises are cracking and popping like listening to an old LP.

not every song i played showed up those pops and cracks.. but especially piano music (jazz, classical music..)

and a few other tracks are "interrupted" by these.

the noises seem to be frequency depending..


for now i tried to change my wifi settings, the router which is connected to the airplay devices, the whole B&W zeppelin wireless device. nothing changed.

the issue shows up using different apple devices (iPod, iPhone, apple tv, macbook).


anyone any idea about that (for example how to fix it) ??

Same issue, though it's an old one (has been present since I bought my Zeppelin almost a year ago), and is specific to the Zeppelin Wireless (other AirPlay devices on the same network do not suffer from this problem).


Obviously degraded sound quality over AirPlay versus Bluetooth, with strange crackling distortions that are frequency and volume dependent.


I think you are best taking this up with B&W support, as it does not appear to be an Apple or Apple-related issue. I hope others will chime in though because so far this is the only other report I've found of this phenomenon.

Hi, Is the problem solved with your zeppelin after changing to another new one?

Exactly the same issue with my zeppelin wireless bought the day before yesterday. I found it accidentally when playing the piano music by Jupiter Blues, and the same as other similar piano music. And the problem is more serious when increasing the volume. Changing to bluetooth just makes the problem not so serious, but still there and the noise a little different.

Hi, got some (bad) news here... After more than one month, they (B&W) finally sent me back my zeppelin and told me they found nothing... After recalling the technical service of the retail seller (because i didn't agree with their conclusion), a technician asked me to take a video of the distortion issues (lol...) and to send them. They gave me several versions during the proceedings and now I have a defective device that cost me 700 € because they do not have the skills to find the problem. I give up the case, they just fool us.


Cya B&W and Easy-m (retail seller) you will never see me again 😉 .
