Contacts not syncing properly w/ VW Alltrack Bluetooth

I have a new VW Alltrack w/ Apple Carplay and also Bluetooth phone connectivity. The iphone syncs fine with Carplay but the iphone must be cable connected in order to use it. I want to be able to use the wireless Bluetooth connection as an alternative when I don't have the cable to connect. The Bluetooth works with the iphone, however, it is not properly importing my current Contacts list. It seems to be accessing an old phonebook list that is very much out of date and basically unusable. I'm thinking that perhaps when I got the new iPhone (I've got a 6s now) sometime in the past the SIM card had the old phonebook transferred—perhaps from Verizon Wireless' Backup Assistant (now Verizon Cloud) program—and this could be what the car's bluetooth is importing instead of my current Apple Contact list, which is synced to iCloud and works on all my Apple devices. I successfully backed up to and verified the backup for my current Contacts to Verizon Cloud, plus, I disconnected and then reconnected/synced my iPhone to the car's Bluetooth, however the car is still displaying only the old, outdated phonebook listing. Not sure what the solution is or what to do next. Any ideas? Thanks.
