Hulu watch list will not auto refresh on Apple TV 4th gen

On my Apple TV (4th Gen), my Hulu app will not auto-refresh in the background. I have to kill the app manually each time in order for my watchlist to update the new episodes most recently available for the shows I watch. I find it hard to believe that this is the standard but I have not been able to see any troubleshooting tips or any other listings with a similar problem. And I have done it all, killed the app, killed all apps, restarted, unplugged, and even restored the entire Apple TV. Help please!!!!!
