I can't get the Apple TV to put out 1080p on downloaded movies like I tunes says

Thank you Phil0124 for your thorough reply. After reading your reply and researching the manual of the projector, I came to the same conclusion. The projector is only capable of 1080p when receiving signal from a DVI, component or RGB device.
Thank you very much for making it clear that the limitation of 1080p was coming from the projector and NOT the ATV.
What generation Apple Tv is it?

3rd and 4th generations can output in 1080p.
First and second generations cannot.
Also output will depend on the source. Where were these movies downloaded from?
Are you sure the movies are in 1080p?
Yes, it's a 3rd gen Apple TV . The source is directly from iTunes and down loaded into a MBP. I can scale it and mirror it into the projector, but I can't get it to display higher than 720p using the Apple TV 3rd gen
I know it's not 1080p because the projector shows what resolution it's projecting. I have in earlier post explained that I can scale it to 1080i from the MBP and the projector will display as so. But at the same time, it will not project the same Resolution on thrue the Apple TV 3rd gen. It will only show 720p

If that model number is correct, then the projector cannot handle 1080p.

It maxes out at 1080i.
If the video source is a 1080p video, and the apple tv does not change this, then the projector will naturally default down to the highest progressive output it can handle, that being 720p. You cannot display progressive video as interlaced unless the conversion is done at the source like from your MPB.
You are in fact being limited by the projector.
if it's the 2second generation appletv it don't truly support 1080p
I absolutly know they are 1080p- I tunes claims that if downloaded they would play in 1080p and I have them set from iTunes to display as 1080p. The Apple TV is a 3rd gen
