Why is my charger heating up?

I plugged in my charger and it starts heating up and heat up the computer's battery as well. Why does that happen and how can I fix it?

Your charger generates heat as a by product of converting AC to DC power for your MBA. However, it should not create excessive heat where the charger becomes uncomfortable to touch. Based on your description, one or the other can potentially be the issue:

  1. The battery is faulty and requires too much energy to keep it charged, or
  2. The charger is faulty.


The fix? Try to verify which is the culprit, then replace it where possible.
