delete downloaded movie files from itunes to clear disk space

My disk space is full on my PC and I want to remove the downloaded movie files to free up space. Can I just go to the folders and delete the file from there? I don't want to remove it from my library, I just don't want the file on there anymore as it takes up precious disk space.

Deleting the files from your disk will delete the movie from your library and leave iTunes with a broken link. Delete the movie using iTunes. Right click on the movie(s) and choose Remove Download. If it's a download from Apple, you can download it again when you want. Or when you have space. You should see a cloud icon in the lower left after it has been removed.

If you have an external drive with space on it, you can use SyncToy and back up your library which will save your downloaded movies prior to removing them.
