Trying to open Microsoft OneNote on an iMac with no luck

I have MS Office installed across a range of devices: iMac, MBP, iPad, iPhone.

I've just moved into a new office, and now have a second iMac set up. It's running Word without any problems.

When I try to open OneNote, I get the macOS system message: 'The application "Microsoft OneNote" can't be opened.' with a problem report that opens for me to send away.

I can't find any reference to this on the web anywhere, and have no idea how to fix it.

iMac (21.5 inch, Late 2015) 1.6GHz i5, 8 GB memory; macOS Sierra 10.12.3

Microsoft Office up to date with autoupdate

Any suggestions appreciated.

The OLEAutomation framework library is located in /Applications/Microsoft OneNote.app/Contents/Frameworks folder on my system (I just downloaded OneNote from the App Store and installed it - weird that this seems to be missing from your OneNote.app folder). Perhaps you need to reinstall OneNote. If that library is missing who knows what else might be missing?

Good luck...

Perhaps it was not installed completely or correctly? You can install OneNote from the App Store for free. You will also need a Microsoft account and you can only save and load OneNote files from the cloud (no local storage) like OneDrive or a SharePoint server.

There are a fair number of poor ratings on App Store for the Mac version of OneNote (about 4% of all reviews). Not a complete or good port of the Windows program on macOS it seems. But that's just my opinion.

I used to use OneNote on a Windows computer about 15 years ago and liked it, but without local storage of OneNote files, it isn't practical without a constant internet connection.

Good luck...

Great suggestion.

I think this is the pertinent section:

Termination Reason: DYLD, [0x1] Library missing

Application Specific Information:

dyld: launch, loading dependent libraries

Dyld Error Message:

Library not loaded: @rpath/OLEAutomation.framework/Versions/A/OLEAutomation
