How to import video clips/media?(AVCHD ) Final Cut Pro X 10.3.2

What you should do is either copy the WHOLE card and is file structure to your Mac.

Or use an appropriate card reader to import to FCP X.

Or connect the camera with the card in it and set the camera to connect to a computer.

Grabbing the files in the way you have shown is not best practice.

DO not do anything at the Finder level with the card. You don't need to open it or copy anything off it. Simply mount the card and open the FCP import window. In normal circumstances the card will appear listed as a camera in the upper left.

It looks like the contents of the SD card have already been altered.

For future reference, never make any changes to the contents of a camera card in the Finder. As you were already told, simply insert the card as is, and it should work.

For the present situation, the only way out that I can see is to manually copy the actual video files out of the AVCHD package and into a regular folder, and try importing from there. Control-click, Show Package Contents, and navigate to the actual files, and copy them elsewhere - say, to a folder called "Stuff" on your desktop.

Can you mount the card on the computer and show what's in the import window. Don't select anything inside any folder. Don't open anything. Need to see how the card mounts in FCP.

Do you have multiple formats recorded on the card? Or content from multiple devices.

Got FCP10.3.2 yesterday. Plugged camera in and it mounts, clicked the Untitled folder to open. Inside is the AVCHD Collection folder, opens with control click, choose Show Package Contents.

this opens up the file structure within the AVDHD content...

You look for the STREAM or PRIVATE folder depending on your camera and the file names are 00000.MTS. I copy those to a hard drive and import them into FCP10.3.2

I would think the card is not useable in it's current state.

Drag out the individual files and use a third party app like Streamclip to convert the files to ProRes, then connect the converted files to FCP X.

That's better than trashing the whole thing if you have valuable footage.

Same thing. I shot a three day conference with four cameras. At the end of each night I copied the entire contents of the camera SD card into my RAID.

Day 1

-Camera 1

-Camera 2

-Camera 3

-Camera 4

Day 2 (and so on....)

I imported some of the files into FCPX to cut the first video and everything was visible, when I went on to the second video, files were suddenly invisible to FCPX, notably Camera 4 for one of the days. I made a complete copy of that folder called Camera 4 Dupe, put that folder outside the tree and was able to import the files.

Now I'm on to the next video and more are invisible, so I did the same thing, and now even the dupes are invisible to FCPX, yet if I open up the folders in the Finder, I can double-click on the AVCHD file and see all the clips and can even play them using a video player.

Just for ***** and grins I launched iMovie and the original files all are visible, so this is definitely a FCPX issue.

I have this exact same problem. I am working with FCP 10.3.4. I have 10 mac pros, 9 of them able to import media files directly from Sony, Canon and Panasonic cameras. Within the last month, I have a mac that recognizes the camera when plugged in. It actually goes through the process of "creating the thumbnails", however when the process is complete, it displays an empty window. The camera is still displayed on the left, however the window to select the clips to import is empty. Plus, it shows an eject icon rather than the full circle icon. (In ALL types of cameras). I take the same camera, connect it to another computer, it is recognized AND is able to import all media. These cameras are using the internal hard drive, so I cannot take the card out and use a card reader (even if I could with the Sony, with the MTS files, I couldn't anyways). This is a recent occurrence with only the one computer. As far as I know, all 10 are configured exactly the same way. Any help would be appreciated as I have a very expensive non-usable computer in a high school media program.

Yes. I have the exact image on this machine as on my 9 others. I have tried uninstalling Final cut and reinstalling. this is a recent problem within the last month. It started out as a Sony issue, now none of my cameras are importing.

If you have anymore suggestions, I'll keep watching this thread. I'm a media teacher at a high school and am totally stumped with this issue. My last resort will be to reimage this machine.

Yes. Believe me, I've done about two hours of research around this problem AND at least another two more on the computer itself. When I have 30 students and 10 computers I am motivated to fix this problem. I guess I'll just have to reimage. It just seems strange that it's a cross RAW file platform - mts, mov and mp4. The camera actually looks like it's going to connect - the spinning circle - then nothing. YET it imports from the desktop. I am actually encountering then same problem as the original "thread poster" - my cameras aren't even being recognized in Photos anymore. I used to be able to import through there (LOOOOOONG process) but at least that was a back up - not happening anymore. Like I said, I have a $3000 machine that is useless now.
