Logitech mouse - G3 - 5 button - driver doenst find the mouse

hi,

i am trying to get my mouse (Logitech G3)
working with full 5 button support.

i tried this driver (v212)
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/downloads/software/US/EN,CRID=1792,contentid=7 636,OSID=9

but after reboot and check in the control center the app tells me that there are no logitech items.

The mouse itself and the default buttons are working as supposed.

i checked USB at front/back and at my keyboard at my macpro.
same result

any idea how to get all buttons working ?
best regards
fidel

You should not use new version 2.1.2 of LCC. It appears to don't work at all for a lot of people (maybe everyone).

Try older version 2.1.1 : ftp://ftp.logitech.com/pub/techsupport/mouse/mac/lcc211.dmg

By the way, LCC use and install Unsanity Application Enhancer (APE) and last version 2.1.2 install a new version of APE which seems to have a bug with Rosetta and slow down Intel based Mac.

You should manually uninstall APE after uninstalling version LCC 2.1.2 and before install version 2.1.1.

He may have been talking about one of the components of the LCC software which is LCC Scroll enhancer.ape which is installed on the root level of your hard drive in the library/application enhancers folder. There is a plist file associated with that in the folder. If you decide to uninstall the version of LCC you are using make sure to use the uninstaller included with it to clean up everything.

by the way I am using v2.1.2 with my Logitech Trackman Wheel and it all works just fine.

the APE he may be refering to is one installed by Unsanity Software products and not by LCC. If you have installed Fruit Menu, or some of the other products from Unsanity then it is installed on your sytem. If you have never installed them, then it is not there as only an Unsanity product would actually install the APE software.

By the way, according to Logitech's web site that particular mouse is only supported on the Windows platform. In fact it is only supported by Windows XP and Windows 2000.

Since they don't appear to make a Mac driver for it chances are it is not going to work.

I'm talking about .plist but also about APE files wich are installed under :
/library/application enhancers folder
and /system/library/frameworks folder

You may search for unsanity or application enhancer with spotlight to be sure to delete all files. Or you can download and install a complete version of application enhancer from unsanity website and use the uninstall option.

I've never installed Unsanity APE so it's definitly the version installed with Logitech CC 2.1.2 which cause problems.

But slowing the system may happen with Intel based Mac only (and perhaps only with OS X 10.4.8) because it's about Rosetta only.

Unsanity APE files have NOTHING to do with the .ape file that LCC installs. The two are not related and have nothing in common with each other. The file that LCC installs with the suffix .ape simply means it is an application enhancment file hence the .ape extension.

APE files from unsanity are not .ape files but are kext files that alter the basic system, in other words a hack. That is why Unsanity's applications are referred to as "haxies". They can cause problems but if the original poster has never installed any Unsanity software then there will not be any APE files on his sytstem, just .ape files.

Hope that makes sense to you.

The LCC installer removes the .ape files if he uses it.

the point is moot anyway as his mouse is not supported by the Mac OS, only Windows so the Mac drivers will not give him the functionality that he is looking for. 🙂
